Today is World Mental Health Day. It's been a tough year for me, and for everyone, but it's also been an unexpected adventure in style. So what do the two have to do with each other? Well, putting together my little outfits each day has really helped me get through everything. It's helped me feel good about myself, helped give me a creative outlet, and quite honestly, helped me get up and out of bed, and changed in the morning.
After writing my Salesforce Blog for a few years, I hit a bit of a creative stalemate, but I'm finally feeling like writing again! I'm going to continue to write that blog, but I've decided to start something new to talk about my favourite outfits and my mental health.
Growing up, I've always gravitated to more colourful items, but I always remember worrying about wearing something that was too "much", maybe too colourful, or patterned. Last year when I was visiting home in Sydney, I noticed a very distinctive style sub-culture outside the mainstream, and I was enamoured. I loved it and decided it was finally time to embrace some of the quirkier items in my wardrobe together with some of the other quirkier items! And thus my official "Zaz Style" journey began!
But growing up I also thought I was a bit of a weirdo that overthought things constantly, and it wasn't until I was finally diagnosed with depression this year that I learned there was a reason for this. I'm finally getting some help from my wonderful family doctor, but have also noticed the difference wearing a fun outfit can make. I quite often hear from people that during the pandemic they haven't made the effort to put a nice outfit together as they're not going anywhere, but I've decided to make the effort for myself! I started posted my outfits in my Instagram stories, and as my collection of fun pieces has grown, I finally feel like writing together to explain why I've chose what pieces.
I hope you'll join me on this journey. I'd love to hear how you're dealing with the pandemic, and if you've discovered new things along the way too. I'll be including links to makers and to the specific items if they are still available, and also aim to talk them about their processes too.

This outfit is one I've been planning for a while - this Priya pinafore from Made590 features possums designed by Andrea Smith, and I've paired it with a possum brooch and some squirrels. As an Aussie girl in Canada, I love my Australiana, but I also love my Canadiana too!
