As you can imagine, growing up I've had a lot of comments on my name, as well as countless nicknames and mispronounciations from people that have found it too hard. I've always walked to the beat of my own drum though, so it's provided more laughs than anything else. Though I will say the most bizarre misinterpretation was "Debra"... due to the fact that I usually always spell my name "Zed as in Zebra", which is because of my penchant for Zebras.
I have very vivid memories of playing the "match words to the first letter of your name" games and always being Zebra for the animal component, so I've always loved them. I also remember being "Zany" during the adjective game, which seems very fitting in retrospect. Though I also remember the school librarian having to help me with that one... she suggested Zany and Zealous, and 9 year old me thought Zany sounded more fun for some reason. Go figure.
For this alphabrooch challenge, ironically the only letter I couldn't cover with my existing collection, no matter how creative I got, was Zed. I'd been pondering the addition of a Zebra brooch for a while - to match my Zebra top nicely, and was delighted to discover there was in fact a Zany Zebra brooch - named Zelda!
I'm proudly displaying my zaniness more and more each day, and well and truly embracing my stripes. After all, a Zebra can't change their stripes, but they certainly can learn to love and flaunt them!
